The FT (www.ft.com) , Hemscott (www.hemscott.com) and FTSE (www.ftse.co.uk) sites used to offer a wealth of free corporate data. However, the amount of data now available to non-subscribers is now becoming increasingly limited. These sites still provide good starting points but the sources listed below may be more useful:
The Annual Reports Service (FT.com)
This is a free service provided by PrecisionIR for the readers of Financial Times Online, giving quick access to annual reports and other information on selected companies. You will have to fill in your contact details in order to access the reports.
Cantos
Cantos is an online corporate communications channel through which companies communicate on video directly with institutional investors, the media and employees. Free registration allows you to access video footage of interviews and briefings with many of the top business leaders.
CAROL
Links into the accounts sections of company websites internationally. The site also provides links into stock exchanges worldwide.
Fortune 500
Brief financial information on and links into both US and Global Fortune 500 companies. The site also provides rankings, share information and sector snapshots.
Hoovers Company Profiles
Gives brief details and descriptions of approx 13,000 companies (mainly US), provides company rankings and links to company websites and stock quotes.
Reuters.com Stocks Information
A comprehensive site for both institutional and individual investors providing broker reports - some pay-per-view and others can be accessed without charge. Though the emphasis is on the US the global coverage is generally good.
US Securities and Exchange Commission
Allows free searches and downloads for the regulatory filings of all US public companies - unlike Companies House in the UK. The non-subscriber site can be a little harder to navigate and the presentation of the reports less easy on the eye, but all the information is there.
Yahoo! Finance UK & Ireland
A good source of free financial news, market summaries of major indices and their components. Components' profiles, detailed data of components and associated headlines are available. It is also linked to Reuters.com for the pay-per-view broker reports.
