I like the fact that we are solutions-focused and feel accountable for what our clients achieve. We give people a calm and supportive space in which to reflect and weigh options, prompted and guided by our experience and insight into what works and what doesn’t.
My previous roles have each fed into how I work now. Before I joined Stork & May I was a headhunter. Search firms’ views are important for most of our clients and it really helps to understand how headhunters think and operate. In my earlier career I was an investment banker, working across a broad range of industries in contexts of complete confidentiality, with the client’s interests coming first. I learned to operate at Board level, to have confidence in my decisions and to recognise the need to build arguments that were robust and would stand the test of time in public.
It is a privilege to work with talented individuals at the top of their fields and to build productive relationships in which we each respect and make use of the other’s skills and understanding. Clients know that I bring insight into a highly specialist area and that they are benefiting from many years of experience, framed in an empathetic and pragmatic way. We become close to our clients and many remain good friends.
I am continuously stretched and always learning as I work, which is good for my clients and good for me. This is the best role I have ever had.
